Раз уж Дневники штормят, и народ начал обустраивать убежище здесь, почему бы не вспомнить пароль от своего древнего аккаунта) Ну, и чтобы в записи висело что-то красивенькое:

Greatly enjoyed watching "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" this morning. Not overly complicated or especially original cartoon, but extremely beautiful one. In the beginning I sat with my mouth quite literally open. Creators managed to make their owls look so real, every feather can be seen when owl moves with the airstream. Fascinating!
And emotions, emotions in the owls' eyes are so vivid, so clear!
Beautiful.

LOL, absolutely priceless XD

Professor Tom Riddle stepped into the Great Hall, his wand out and a ferocious look on his face. It did not escape notice by the crowd that his arm was covered in not so human colored blood.

Harry saw Dumbledore's twinkling eyes turn harsh and his smile disappear as Riddle entered the Hall. He stood in a swift motion, but was too slow to speak before Riddle's voice echoed through the Hall.

"There was a troll. In the dungeons. Thought you ought to know."

I love our weather ♥
On my way home, there was a mix of deep blue sky, white clouds, and dark heavy thunderclouds over my head. No more than three minutes ago it started pouring down and showed no signs of stopping anytime soon, but now sun's shining brightly again and the only reminder of recent storm is a merry sprinkle.

OMG, Russian Sherlock fandom managed to frighten English-speaking tumblrers.

Sherlock: A Study in Borscht.

kirilledinaction decided to translate some of the jokes made about impending official Russian dub here and made them seem like real thing.

There is online interview being taken on Twitter right now. It's great xD

Johann Hari
: Speaking of honesty... you say you've never fancied Hugh Laurie. Come on Stephen, you can tell me...
Stephen Fry: *blush* *simper* *giggle* *nervously makes circles in the carpet with the pointed end of his shoes* *shuffles* *giggles* etc.
Hari: Hah! I KNEW it! I've seen the pictures...
Stephen: It is a fortunate truth. I do recognise that he is very handsome and I know that many men and women do lust after him. Happily not I. True!
Hari: I would say 'lol' if I didn't believe that phrase should be punished with immediate death.
Stephen: Oh no. You thought the *blush* etc referred to Hugh! No, it was in response to your "ppl find you attractive" tweet! *help!* crossed wires
Hari: Excuses, excuses... Hah!

Whole interview is here... )

Does Your Language Shape How You Think?
By GUY DEUTSCHER
Published: August 26, 2010

The idea that your mother tongue shapes your experience of the world may be true after all.

Quite an interesting article. Several quotes about gender in different languages:

"Let’s take genders again. Languages like Spanish, French, German and Russian not only oblige you to think about the sex of friends and neighbors, but they also assign a male or female gender to a whole range of inanimate objects quite at whim. What, for instance, is particularly feminine about a Frenchman’s beard (la barbe)? Why is Russian water a she, and why does she become a he once you have dipped a tea bag into her?"

"When I speak English, I may say about a bed that “it” is too soft, but as a native Hebrew speaker, I actually feel “she” is too soft. “She” stays feminine all the way from the lungs up to the glottis and is neutered only when she reaches the tip of the tongue".

"Of course, all this does not mean that speakers of Spanish or French or German fail to understand that inanimate objects do not really have biological sex — a German woman rarely mistakes her husband for a hat, and Spanish men are not known to confuse a bed with what might be lying in it".

One of the reasons I prefer English language to French is that I don't have to learn which thing is "she", which is "he", and whether gender is different from that in Russian))

I went to Norway with my mother this July. We traveled by bus, so our journey was a bit difficult, but it was worth it. A very beautiful country with countless mountains, waterfalls and magnificent fjords.
I'll tell a bit about one particular stop of the trip where we visited The Flåm Railway.

Everything is bound to end.
Anything as enjoyable as "Jeeves and Wooster" TV series is bound to end quite fast, no matter how you try to make it last)) I've read the books long time ago and love them dearly, but watching these fellows come alive on the screen is something else entirely! Fry and Laurie managed perfect impersonation of the book characters and I just can't imagine Jeeves or Wooster looking like anyone else. Also I can't look at the sore expression on the face of House and not see Bertie's trademark gobsmacked one XD
Well, no one says I have to put DVDs away right now, so I'll go ahead and start watching anew))
